User Guide To Tip Truck Hire & Contractors

A truck is a motor vehicle that is designed to transport cargo. They vary greatly in size, power and configuration. People hire trucks for transporting things from one location to another. They make use of the large space trucks have for moving to save time and energy. Large trucks can be used to transport specialized equipment or large amounts of cargo. Trucks are usually powered by diesel engines which have been criticized for its negative effects to the environment. Despite of its usefulness in transporting cargo, trucks contribute greatly to air, noise, and water pollution greater than other automobiles.

A tip truck or dump truck is used for transporting loose material such as sand and dirt for construction. It has a hydraulically operated open-box at the rear which can be lifted to allow the contents to be deposited on the ground.
Types of tip trucks that can be hired from contractors include:

  • Standard dump trucks
  • Articulated dump trucks
  • Transfer dump trucks
  • Truck and pup
  • Superdump trucks
  • Semi-trailer end dump trucks
  • Double and triple trailer bottom dump trucks
  • Side dump trucks
  • Off-road dump trucks
  • Winter service vehicles

Safety considerations

Since tip trucks are built with their bumpers placed high for added ground clearance, it may cause severe injuries to a standard car. In cases of collisions, the entire motor section or luggage compartment goes under the truck. Although the driver is relatively protected due to the height of the seat and the chassis, it can cause serious harm to other drivers. Some countries have made rules regarding the construction of new trucks. Bumpers should be approximately 40 cm above the ground to protect other drivers.
The leveling of the truck before unloading should also be considered. If the truck is not parked on relatively horizontal ground, the sudden change of weight can cause the truck to slide or turn over.
It is more difficult to control a tip truck because of their size. There is difficulty in maintaining visual contact with other objects or people therefore it can very difficult for a tip truck to back up. It is recommended that a truck be installed with mirrors and back-up alarms as well as a companion to spot to decrease back-up injuries and fatalities.

Tips when renting a tip truck

  • Have a list of potential truck hire companies by researching through the internet and asking friends and colleagues for their recommendations.
  • Choose a truck that is a size larger than what you need to guarantee enough space for whatever you plan to do with it.
  • Understand all the costs and fees that come with the truck rental. Read the contract carefully before signing to make sure that you do not get any surprise expenses.
  • Ask the truck hire company if they want you to return the truck back to its original location or to a different destination.
  • Check with your State or local government regarding the reputation of the truck hire company.
