User Guide To New Cars

New cars in Australia are sold at car dealerships. These establishments sell new cars at the retail level based on the dealership contract with the manufacturer of the vehicle. They employ automobile salespeople or dealers to do the selling to customers.
Car brokers are people who work with other new car dealerships to get the best possible price for a new car in behalf of a client or customer.

The car broker will contact one or more dealers in their network to determine the best car price possible that is within the budget of their client. The delivery and location of the dealers is also a factor that needs to be considered since most brokers offer to deliver the car to any location the client requests for a fee.

Many car dealerships today have websites where they post photos, details and prices of new cars. This has led to car brokers being less common since many websites provide broker-type systems. There are also websites that offer unlimited free listings for the convenience of the customer.

The Motor Trades Association of Australia is the peak body that represents the interests of the retail, service and repair sector of the country?s automotive industry which employs over 308,000 people. It is a federation of various states and territory motor trades associations as well as the Australian Automobile Dealers Association. It also represents a number of Affiliated Trade Associations that represent particular subsectors of the industry, ranging from vehicle repair to parts and recycling.

Tips when buying a new car

  • Once you have decided which car to buy, research online about similar vehicles in other locations and the price so that you are in a strong position to haggle with the dealer.?
  • Decide how much you can pay for the vehicle. There is always room for negotiations when it comes to prices, but do not be afraid to walk away if the price isn?t agreed.
  • Look for other options online. If dealers think you are looking at other options, they will be more willing to negotiate.
  • Let the dealers know that you are serious. Dealers will work harder and will negotiate with you if they know that you?re going to buy a car if the deal is right.
  • Test-drive the car so that you can get a feel of the vehicle. Bring someone who?s knowledgeable along to point out any unusual sounds or movements.
  • When you have a car you want to sell, you can trade it in for a new vehicle. However, it may not be as much as opposed to selling it privately.
  • Compare the finance offers of different dealers and find out how much the finance package will cost over the term of the deal. Compare the finance package with that of a standard personal loan.
  • Some dealers will offer car insurance and breakdown cover. It would probably save you a lot of money if you check these independently.
