Gynecology literally means "science of women" and is the counterpart to andrology which deals with specific issues related to the male reproductive system.  Gynecologists are medical specialists responsible for the care for female reproductive system. 

Modern gynecologists are also obstetricians since both specialties usually overlap and form a single medical specialty. In some countries, a woman must first see a general practitioner before seeing a gynecologist. If the condition requires a more knowledgeable and surgical technique, the woman is then referred to a gynecologist.

Tips on how to choose the right gynecologist
Know your needs to make your trip to the gynecologist as pleasant and fast as possible.

  • Consult your other doctor for referrals.
  • Consult your family and friends and know who they went to and why.
