User Guide To Travel Agents

Travel agents are people that provide travel related services and products to customers on behalf of airliners, hotels, cruises, and tours. They make travel arrangements for travelers so that people will no longer have to apply for such individual services personally such as transport and accommodations when they reach their destinations. All travel agents in Australia are required to be licensed by the Business Licensing Authority.

Since the development of air travel, travel agents and travel agencies have become commonplace in cities and some rural areas. They initially catered to middle and upper class customers but have begun serving the working class after the war.
There are two types of agencies according to the help and services they provide. A corporate focused travel agency is the best choice for businesses and the like. Leisure focused travel agency, on the other hand, specializes in tours and trips for recreational and pleasure purposes.

One of the problems that customers face is the availability of the travel agent and the contact details of the travel agency to answer any queries the customer might have.
Australian Travel Professionals Program (ATPP) and the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) are two bodies that maintain the highest standards and code of ethics for travel agents and services in Australia. These ensure that all travel agents provide professional service by being up-to-date about the various facets and updates of Australian and International travel.

Tips for using travel agents

  • Make sure that the travel agent is licensed by the Business Licensing Authority. Certified travel agents usually display their credentials on business cards or ads.
  • Research about your destination and present your findings to your travel agent. This would help travel agents provide options that are best suited to your budget and taste.
  • Plan ahead, by booking tickets or tour packages months in advance. This would increase your chances of getting the best options.
  • Discuss the kind of trip that you like with your travel agent. The travel agent may be able to connection to find out certain perks that can be made available during your trip.
  • Discuss your budget with the travel agent so that activities and accommodations that are well within your budget can be mapped out for you.

Tour tips when in Australia

  • Book for an accommodation that will fit your budget and your taste instead of spending too much on services you do not need. There are affordable and cost-effective accommodations in and around Australia.
  • It is always important for tourists to carry identification, especially your passport, and visa when travelling. Visitors from all countries, except New Zealand, are required to apply for a visa before travelling to Australia.
  • Do not be afraid to ask for directions from hotel staff, information officers, or police officers as they are the most qualified to provide you with the best information to make your stay as comfortable and hassle-free as possible.
  • Always abide by the laws of the states and territories in Australia.
