City Clinic Pilates provides a fully equipped, air conditioned Pilates Studio, conveniently located near the QVB and only 5 minutes walk from both Town Hall and Wynyard Railway Stations. City Clinic Pilates is also easily accessible by Bus with stops at Wynyard and both York and George Sts sides of QVB. Equipment includes reformers, trapeze bed, wunder chair, high and low barrels, free weights, swiss balls, mirrors, and ample floor space. It is an ideal facility for specialised rehabilitation work as well as general strength and conditioning. Each new client begins with a one hour individual consultation. Details of injury, medical and exercise history and lifestyle are discussed. This is followed by a detailed assessment of posture, joint range of motion, flexibility, muscle function and movement patterns. The initial session also includes an introduction to the fundamentals of the Pilates method. With a clear picture of a clients strengths and weaknesses, specific exercises and stretches can be assigned to an individual program that the client can follow independently. There is a maximum of four people to a class so that exercises are carefully supervised. Classes run throughout the day and evenings Monday to Friday. Based on the principles of the Pilates method, safe, specific and appropriate exercise is taught with intense supervision to ensure good breathing, careful application and excellent form. With the recommended commitment of two sessions per week, significant improvement can be apparent in 3-4 weeks. Trusted and recommended by physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and doctors, Pilates can be integrated into rehabilitative exercise designed to speed recovery of injury.
